Engine oil change
Engine oil is one of the main working fluids. The degree of wear of motor elements depends on its quality. After all, the oil protects the surfaces of adjacent parts, reducing friction, and affects the temperature of their heating.
The oil creates a very thin film in the area where the friction parts of the engine components contact. If the engine works with dry areas in this area, it will fail quickly. That is why it is important to change the oil in the engine regularly.
When do you need to change the engine oil?
Everything is very individual for each car brand. The service book mainly indicates the timing of engine oil replacement and gives recommendations on its type. Preferably the replacement is carried out every 10 - 15 thousand km. mileage. But the dark color of the oil is a signal that it should be replaced as soon as possible.
Unfortunately, unfavorable climatic conditions and poor road quality also lead to the fact that oil changes have to be done more often than expected by the car manufacturer. Also pay attention to the load of the car, downtime in traffic jams, frequent short-distance travel, during which the engine can not warm up enough. These are also negative factors that shorten the oil change time in the engine.
How to choose the right oil?
In general, there are 3 types of lubricants: mineral, synthetic and semi-synthetic.
- Minerals have low resistance to sudden temperature changes.
- Synthetic, on the contrary, are designed for cars operated in unstable climatic zones. However, they are not suitable for old cars with worn out engines.
- Semi-synthetic lubricants are universal, because they keep the engine clean for a long time and are suitable for any terrain.
However, among the great variety of motor oils it is quite difficult to make the right choice on your own. Therefore, it is better to consult with professionals who will give professional advice for your car.
Oil change through drain plug
Waste oil drains from the hole at the bottom of the crankcase, drain plug. In this case, the oil drains under pressure from its own weight. Chips and slag are also washed away. With this traditional method of changing the oil, the bottom of the car is inspected - thus detecting any faults.
Vacuum oil change
This express method allows you to change the engine oil in a shorter period of time. The car does not need to be placed on the overpass, the drain plug is not unscrewed. Oil removal is performed through the hole provided for the probe to check the fluid level.
Old, used oil is pumped out only in the heated state - for this purpose the engine is started and liquid is brought to working temperature. The heated working fluid becomes viscous. Then the oil probe is removed, and a tube for pumping is inserted into its hole. It is set to the maximum level and connect the pumping unit, inside which a reduced pressure is created.
This vacuum is provided by a pump - manual or electric. It is due to the diluted pressure that the liquid rises inside the installed capacity. The amount of oil to be removed is monitored, after which the unit is disconnected and the used liquid is drained from the tank.
Do I always need to replace the oil filter when changing the engine oil?
So. Every time you change the engine oil, you need to replace the oil filter. After all, a clogged oil filter works inefficiently. Usually the filter becomes dirty after 8 - 10 thousand km of run. The oil stops being cleaned and, accordingly, this leads to rapid wear of the engine.
Is it always necessary to flush the engine when changing the oil?
No. Engine flushing is a short process and is not always necessary. But there are cases when you can't do without it.
If you bought a used car, you may not know exactly what oil was used in it. And to mix new oil with the remains of another (especially if they are of different types) is highly undesirable. Therefore, rinsing is necessary in this case. You will also need it if you decide to switch from low to high oil. Also, rinse the engine if the oil has mixed with other fluids for one reason or another.
As a rule, start any trip by checking the oil level. At the same time check that the car stood on a level surface, differently there can be an error in diagnostics. The measurement is performed using a control and measuring probe. The oil mark must be between min and max.
