Description:

The engine with the code 1B was produced in the period from February 1988 to November 1990 and was installed on an Audi-200 (avant, quattro) car with manual transmission. The engine modification installed on the Audi-200 (avant) with an automatic transmission is called 2B. The modification that was installed on the Audi Quattro Sport is called MV (from August 1987). The closest "relative" is the MC engine. The gasoline engine (OR = 98), has 5 cylinders located in a row, a working volume of 2226 cm3 and a turbocharger with intermediate air cooling (intercooler). The maximum power is 200 liters. (147kW) at 5800 rpm, and the maximum torque is 270 Nm at 3000 rpm. The engine power system is called K-Jetronic+turbo and has a number of differences from the K-Jetronic system. The engine management system is called VEZ (it is possible to poll the ECU in diagnostic mode for sensor errors). Control of ignition and partial supercharging (overboost mode) is carried out using sensors: Hall, crankshaft position, coolant temperature, charge air temperature, supercharging pressure, detonation, throttle position. The initial adjustment of the ignition advance angle is not performed on this engine (the position of the ignition distributor is clearly indicated by the marks). The order of operation of the cylinders is 1-2-4-5-3. The high-voltage part of the ignition system consists of one ignition coil with a switch in the form of a transistor, a distributor, high-voltage wires and three-electrode candles. The geometric compression ratio of the engine is 8.6. The maximum pressure developed by turbocharging is 1.6 bar (absolute pressure). The turbine has combined oil-water cooling. The engine is also equipped with an aftercooling system (cooling after stopping), i.e. after stopping the engine, the coolant is pumped through the cooling system (by a special electric pump) and the main radiator is simultaneously cooled by the working electric fan (operating at the 1st speed). Blowing of nozzles and hoses of the injection system is also carried out (to prevent the formation of gas jams and facilitate the start of a hot engine). The passport time of acceleration from 0-100 km/h for the car in the quattro version is 7.5 seconds, and the maximum developing speed is 231 km/h. The engine has a pronounced turbocharged character, i.e. a small torque in the range up to 2500 rpm, then "normal" traction appears up to 3000 rpm, and after 3000 rpm the maximum torque develops, which practically does not decrease to the upper limit of revolutions. In order to "normally" drive this engine, you must not be afraid to "twist" it. In principle, the exhaust system is quite noisy (definitely specially designed this way), but it does not bother you at all when driving at revs not higher than 3000. When driving at higher revs, the engine clearly begins to "climb" into the cabin (in 5th gear, 3000 rpm corresponds to a speed of 130 km/h).
