Glow plug K29

The K29 glow plug indicator is located on the instrument cluster. Performs the following tasks:

• Indicates to the driver that the incandescent phase is underway before starting. In this case, the candle burns constantly;
• If the self-diagnostic component fails, the control lamp flashes.

Consequences of breakage

The K29 glow plug indicator will illuminate and will not flash. Fault messages are stored in the fault memory.

Glow plug system

The glow plug system makes it easier to start the engine at low outside temperatures. The system is activated by the J248 direct fuel injection control module at coolant temperatures below 48 ° F (9 ° C). The J52 glow plug relay is activated by the J248 direct fuel injection engine control module. The J52 glow plug relay then switches on the operating current for the Q6 glow plugs.

The process of candles is divided into two phases: the glow period and the long glow period.

Overview of the glow plug system

Incandescence period

Spark plugs are activated when the ignition is switched on and the outside temperature is below 48 ° F (9 ° C). The K29 glow plug indicator illuminates. At the end of this period, the glow plug goes out. The engine can be started.

The period of prolonged incandescence

A period of prolonged incandescence occurs whenever the engine is started, regardless of whether it is preceded by an incandescent period or not. The period lasts no more than four minutes, during which combustion noise is reduced, idle quality is improved and carbohydrate emissions are mixed.
