How to add your car key to the Apple Wallet app on your iPhone or Apple Watch

You can add your car key to the Wallet app and lock, unlock, and start your car using your iPhone or Apple Watch.

 

 

To add and use a car key on your iPhone or Apple Watch, you'll need the following:

• Compatible car. To find out if your vehicle is compatible, contact the manufacturer or dealer.
• An iPhone XS or later or iPhone SE (2nd generation) with the latest version of iOS, or an Apple Watch Series 5 or later, or an Apple Watch SE with the latest version of watchOS. To use passive input or remote control features with compatible vehicles, you'll need an iPhone 11 or later or an Apple Watch Series 6 or later.

How to add a car key to the Apple Wallet app on an iPhone

1. Make sure your vehicle is linked to the account provided by its manufacturer.
2. Open the vehicle manufacturer's app, email or text message, or use the vehicle's information display and follow the key setup instructions.
3. When you're redirected to the Wallet app, tap Continue.
4. If prompted by the on-screen instructions, place your iPhone on the key reader while the iPhone and the car are pairing.
5. When pairing between iPhone and car is complete, tap Done.

Some cars can be locked and unlocked and their engines started using a passive input. For this, you just need to have the device with you.

• The car unlocks automatically when you approach it with your device.
• When you get into the car, you can start the engine.
• When you walk away from the car with your device, it locks itself.

 

When the car is locked or unlocked, you will receive a notification on the device.

 

If Express Mode is not enabled, enter the passcode for confirmation and your car will be locked or unlocked or its engine will start.

If the device is lost

If your device is lost or stolen, you can mark it as lost . After that, no one else will be able to use your device, and all cards, passes and keys, including the car key, will be automatically disabled in the Wallet application.
